Consumer Price Indices And Inflation Rates For May 2024

June 9, 2024

Here are the latest Consumer Price Index and inflation numbers for the month of May 2024 as reported by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

The inflation rate in Kenya increased to 5.1% in May 2024 compared to 5% in April 2024. This means that goods and services were generally 5.1% more expensive in May 2024 compared to May 2023. The rise in prices was mainly driven by transportation, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and housing costs.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure used to track changes in the prices of a basket of goods and services. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) collects data on a monthly basis to calculate the CPI.

Some of the specific products that saw a price increase in May 2024 include spinach, kale, tomatoes, potatoes, beef, and electricity. However, the prices of some other items, such as maize flour, wheat flour, and gas, actually decreased.
